Monaco resident David Shilling has been credited for reviving the art of hat making.
He designed his first hat at age 12 for his mother, Gertrude, to wear to Royal Ascot. She became known as the Ascot Mascot for her extravagantly avant-garde and often gloriously insane headdress. His wearable art can be seen in museums around the world.
He opened his first shop in London in 1976 and on the second day, the wife of one of the world’s biggest celebrities walked in and bought 24 hats. Fifty years on, David is launching his art-based website where you can spend anywhere from €15 to … €55 million.
Grateful to David for this fabulously fun and insightful glimpse of his life as my guest on Monaco Info The Podcast.
